Pulper Rope Recycling

Since no bale of recovered fibre coming into the pulper at a paper/board mill is 100% pure, it means all the contaminants in a bale will enter and collect in the pulper.  So, the mills add a rope inside the pulper.  This rope causes the contaminants in the pulper to curl around and attach themselves to it while the fibre dissolves and leaves the pulper.

This division liberates the fibre pulp to make new paper or board but it also produces these wet, heavy, long, slimy, ropes that build up in the pulper.  They are completely bound up with the contaminants, which are: steel baling wires, films, plastics, foils, insoluble fibres and other contaminants.  In addition to their multi-material composition, these ropes are also of varying widths and weights, and are very heavy.

All in all, these ropes are difficult to handle and were, until very recently, impossible to recycle…

OKAY Pulper Rope Plants make this once impossible process possible.

We take the heavy, wet ropes and use a shredder to liberate the materials from their composite block form.  We then process the shredded material to recover the various plastics and metals from the mix.   The plastics and metals can then go off for regular recycling.

After this, we prepare the flock and the other high-calorie materials that are left over and turn them into a fuel grade.  This fuel is then used either by the mill, to give energy for its processes, or by another manufacturer also with high-energy demands, or an energy from waste plant.

OKAY’s Pulper Rope plants are compact in design and can be set up at the paper/board mills to prevent double handling, third party on costs, and maximum resale values for the recovered products.  Our main achievement is transforming a once un-recyclable heavy item into recovered products and fuel.
